Rare ‘Museum Collection’ of Classic Cars to go on Auction
Classic car collectors will be salivating at the prospect of acquiring some of the world’s rarest collectible automobiles when Texan Dick Burdick’s Museum Collection goes under the hammer on March 3, 2012.
The auction, by Dan Kruse Classics auction house, takes place at the Central Texas Museum of Automotive History in Rosansky, near Austin, Texas.
The collection of 87 classic cars includes a 1970 Silver Show Rolls Royce owned by Johnny Cash, Cornelius Vanderbilt’s Silver Ghost Town Car, Countess Porceri’s 1933 Duesenberg Model J Sports Sedan, Lorraine & De Dietrich VDC Two Seat Racer from The Great Race and, amazingly, a 1969 Chevrolet Corvair Coupe with only 14 miles on the clock.
The car once owned by Countess Proceri, a 1929 Duesenberg Franay limo with a divider window, is one of only two ever built and was shown in the 1931 and 1934 Paris Show.
Other cars being auctioned include a 1906 International Harvester Truck, 1910 Empire Little Aristrocrat Sportabout, a 1921 Studebaker 4DR Touring Car, a 1930 Cadillac “Madam X” V-16 Rumbleseat 2DR Sedan, a 1939 Mercury Eight 2DR Convertible, a 1949 Super Deluxe Ford Coupe, and a 1950 Packard Custom Sedan.
The Central Texas Museum of Automotive History, founded by businessman and and philanthropist Dick Burdick in 1980, was dedicated to the collection, restoration, education and preservation of historic automobiles, accessories and historical data.
Now, after 32 years, Burdick will be moving his facility to his hometown of San Marcos, Texas alllowing for this unique auction of eminently collectible automobiles, most without reserve.
