A 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO has reportedly been sold for £20.2 million by British businessman Jon Hunt, making it the most expensive car ever sold in Great Britain.

This makes it the world’s second most expensive car ever sold, behind a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC that was sold for a whopping price tag of “between £20 and £26 million” in 2010.

The Ferrari 250 GTO, number 5095, was bought by Mr Hunt in 2008 for £15.7 million, which was a world record at the time.

This model Ferrari is regarded as the world’s most sought-after car because only 39 were built in a two-year period between 1962 and 1964. When it first appeared, a new model could be had for £6,000!

The Ferrari 250 GTO was assembled with a V-12, three-litre motor developing 300bhp giving it a top speed of 174 mph.
