So I’m sitting there watching Get Smart and starting to truly imagine that the preview made this dvd look a good deal more fascinating. This idea exited in about 10 minutes once we watch Max with Agent 99.

I’ve forever found Anne Hathaway to be one of the cutest Hollywood actresses and she didn’t neglect me here either. Her slightly revealing wardrobe kept the eye always on the tv, which is how it should be.

Steve Carell has good comic timing, he may on occasion remind people of Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun and Spy Hard style, but outside of that he manages to make Max a really sympathetic and human character, not simply a cartoon.

Max and Agent 99 (Carell and Hathaway) never really end up ‘together’, but seem to end more on a ‘best friend’ foundation by the end of the film.

The balance of the cast is mostly well-chosen (however I didn’t see the reason of Bill Murray’s one minute cameo); there is a big plot spin that grants one cast member to play against character, and even Dalip Singh (aka The Great Khali in WWE) comes off well, playing a massive indestructible henchman in the custom of Jaws of The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker movies.

I always love a dvd video that can make me laugh and keep the action coming fast. Max and Agent 99 have some strong fight scenes, choreographed by fight scene Einstein James Lew. For a finale of action they include a stunning and chaotic chase sequence as well. By an action viewpoint I could say it easily surpasses that of recent Bond pictures, though the comedy does not make it near as serious.

The plot of this movie is pretty simple, there are honest guys and bad guys and the good get to stop the bad guys from killing innocent individuals one of which includes the president. However this movie includes a not so normal lead psychoanalyst known as Maxwell Smart who works for a counter terrorism agency and urgently wants to become a field agent.

Even after passing the field agent exam Max is not granted to go out in the field of battle as his boss (Arkin) tells him that he is the best psychoanalyst they have and that he needs him to stay put. However Max is elevated to a field agent when the bad guys find out all of the names and locations of the live agents and start to eliminate them, with the aid of agent 99 (Hathaway) and agent 23 (The Rock/Dwayne Johnson) Smart is posted to take down the bad guys.

Get Smart has adopted a practical approach to a movie and sometimes seems as if you could be seeing a bond movie due to feeling that some of the widgets are right up Q’s street. However some of the aspects are not to practical such as hanging on to a wire while flying in middle air but this does add some more jokes to the movie. Steve Carell is very likable in this movie like we have all expect and contributes some great onscreen chemistry with co star Hathaway.

I really give this film a thumbs up. Great action, solid acting, and a great body (Hathaway), Get Smart is a success. It takes a unique twist to comedies that represent more serious dvd movies and did it well.

No matter what part of the globe you’re from, you’re probably going to be taking a vacation soon. Can you remember how happy you were with how your last vacation pictures turned out?

The irony is that it usually takes just as much time to shoot outstanding vacation pictures that it does mediocre ones.

So, what’s the secret to capturing better vacation shots?

It’s pretty simple, really. Here’s how to take phenomenal vacation photographs in ten easy steps: Take a few seconds before immediately snapping off 5 pictures and ask yourself these questions:

1. Am I about to be attacked by a wild animal? (It may not be photo-related, but if the camera is also eaten, then…)
2. Could this photograph improve if a circular polarizing filter was used?
3. Do I have the right image in my viewfinder? Think of the view as though you were about to crop the final image. Is there way too much extraneous material in the image (or far too little)? Having up to 20% more in an un-cropped photograph is a good idea, but much more than that could begin to degrade the resolution after the photograph is cropped.
4. Is there a better angle?
5. Would this picture be much more spectacular if taken at another time of day or night (assuming of course, that you could return then)?
6. If I re-position myself, could I include something in the foreground (or background) that would improve the photo?
7. Would the photograph be more effective if taken using a portrait (vertical) perspective rather than a typical landscape (horizontal) perspective?
8. Do I want to be in this photo? If so, use a tripod or ask a stranger to take the shot.
9. Would the picture be better if I had people (or no people) in the shot?
10. Are all my settings correct (at a minimum, consider: ISO, metering mode, fill flash, and white balance).

Realize that you probably don’t go on that many vacations per year. Therefore, doesn’t it make a lot more sense to take a few extra seconds before taking your pictures and be very satisfied of your vacation pictures? Otherwise, the same old mediocre alternatives are still available.

American Music Awards

Annual awards for the music industry always create a lot of interest and the American Music Awards are one of the most popular. Some awards are voted for by people in the entertainment field but these awards are voted by the public. This is why they are popular with the record-buying fans and with the artists themselves.

The awards were instigated by Dick Clark in 1973 and take place in November. The much-loved TV favorite also produces the show every year. The AMAs, as they are sometimes called, have different categories of awards, to reflect different musical genres. American Music Awards are given for Pop/Rock, Country, Soul/Rhythm and Blues, Adult Contemporary, and Latin.

Categories have been added as new musical trends appear, such as Rap/Hip Hop and Alternative. Contemporary Inspirational, a popular form of Christian music, is another category. There is also Favorite Soundtrack, International Artist Award and Favorite Breakthrough Artist.

The recipients receive awards for the Favorite Male, Female, Band or Album. The 2007 show was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the popular comic and talk show presenter. People could vote online for the first time.

In the Pop/ Rock category, the Favorite Male Artist was Justin Timberlake and the Favorite Female artist was Fergie. Nickleback was voted in the category for Favorite Band, Duo or Group. The American Music Awards are not just about presenting the prizes but putting on a good show for the viewing public. The show always has a number of top artists to perform, across a wide range of musical styles. The 2007 show included music from Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Maroon 5, Rihanna and Duran Duran.

Some artists and groups have had exceptional success at the American Music Awards.

Mariah Carey has been nominated the most times for the Pop/Rock section and has won Favorite Female Artist on three occasions.

Michael Jackson leads the way in the number of nominations received for a male artist and has won for Favorite Male Artist, Single and Album.

The Eagles have been the most successful group and the only one to receive nominations over three decades. They have won twice for Favorite Band and twice in the album category. The albums voted for were Their Greatest Hits 1971 - 1975 and Hell Freezes Over.

Other performers to have received many nominations include Madonna, Elton John, Celine Dion and Fleetwood Mac. These awards will continue to be an important part of the musical calendar.

When we are taught guitar scales on the internet or off, what we are in fact doing is learning to play the various individual notes on the guitar. When playing guitar scales one note is played at one time, unlike when you press on several different strings and together.

A scale is made up of eight notes which together are called an octave plus the 9th note which is the same as the first but one octave higher. You may have heard these sung as doh-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-doh. This is known as a major scale. You will also learn chromatic scales which are a little different.

The best way to practice guitar scales is to do a little each day. For example you could start your practice or learning session with a couple of scales to get your fingers warmed up. Then move on to chords and songs.

Learning how to read guitar music online is great because you have your teacher there with you all of the time. You can follow along with all of the exercises and you will hear when you have it right or wrong comparing to the online recording. Some sites have ‘jam sessions’ that you can download and play along with. A good online course in how to play guitar will include major and chromatic scales.

Guitar scales are useful for all guitarists but if you plan to learn classical acoustic guitar, they are even more important. You will find that, at first, it takes some getting used to. Finding each note and moving from one to the next can be slow and awkward when you are new to it.

The good news is that with more familiarity, this will soon be easier. You will begin to know without thinking where the notes are and your fingers will grow more flexible and used to the fret bar. Finding cheap travel international flights is more of an art than a skill. Before the Internet became so prominent, the situation was both better and worse.

On the one hand, there seemed to be less competition for providing cheap international flights. It required several calls to different airlines to research the best deal, so few people bothered to really ensure that they were getting a good price – a fact which kept prices higher.

On the other hand, if you were persistent you could almost always get the best deal. It could take you an hour or two, but by that time you would have an excellent idea of what airline offered the best rates on the dates you were thinking of traveling.

When I start off looking for cheap travel international, I usually go to kayak.com first. The advantage of that web page is that it runs searches of other travel engines. As a meta-search tool, it is more likely than most to provide the cheapest international tickets.

Nevertheless, it is not always right. Sometimes, it misses a deal. Other times, there is a special rate only available on an airline’s own website. It varies from time to time, and sometimes things end up being disappointing.

There have been times, for example, when I have bought a cheap airline ticket only to see one much cheaper crop up the next day. In these circumstances, it is important to keep your mind on the positive. Just remember that you are getting a great deal, and missing out on an even better one will not depress you as much.
